Send model geometry to Rook

Send model geometry to Rook

Rook Lateral can take Revit geometry as a live send or as a .rook-revit.json file. Both paths use the same bridge export.

Live send from Revit

  1. Sign in on the Rook Lateral ribbon.
  2. Open the plan sheet Rook should use and click Set lateral frame.
  3. In Rook Lateral, open the project and keep Revit → Receive from Revit checked.
  4. In Revit, select the walls (and optional floors/slabs for a diaphragm boundary).
  5. Right-click Send to Rook Lateral → the Rook level you want.
  6. Pick the receiving session in the Send to dropdown if needed.

Large selections take longer. Rook notifies when a send arrives.

File export and import

  1. In Revit, click Export to Rook Lateral and save the .rook-revit.json file.
  2. In Rook Lateral, go to File → Import → Import from Revit.
  3. Choose the file, then map Revit levels onto Rook stories.
  4. Confirm the export includes a usable sheet; Rook needs sheet size, scale, and viewport to place geometry.

What transfers

  • Straight structural wall centerlines (NonBearing walls are skipped)
  • Level elevations and names
  • Wall-hosted doors, windows, and openings where supported
  • Optional diaphragm boundaries from selected floors/slabs
  • Stable Revit UniqueId values so re-sends can avoid duplicates

Coordinates are Revit internal feet. Schema version 1.0 does not apply shared-coordinate or survey-point transforms.

After model changes

Send again from Revit, or re-export and import the JSON file. Live sends append; review the Design tab for duplicates or walls you do not want enabled.

Troubleshooting

  • Nothing to send: Select walls, or floors/slabs that form a diaphragm.
  • Not signed in: Use Sign in to Rook Lateral on the ribbon first.
  • No frame set: Open the sheet and click Set lateral frame before sending walls.
  • Missing walls: Confirm they are structural and not NonBearing or curved.
  • Rook not receiving: Check Revit → Receive from Revit and that Send to targets your session.
